NIGHT FALL

By Nelson DeMille

This book, written in 2004, is a work of fiction, but is based on events that actually happened. On July 17th, 1996, at 8:31p.m. E.D.T., TWA Flight 800 bound for Paris and then on to Rome, Italy, took off from New York and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean shortly after takeoff . All 230 on board died in the crash. Of the 258 witnesses who came forward and were interviewed, 38 of those reported a “streak of light” ascending from the ocean. There were many theories as to what actually happened:  was it bomb, missile or mechanical failure? DeMille weaves a tale that will keep you turning the pages. Five years after the crash, John Corey, an ex-NYPD detective and now a contract agent with the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force and his wife Kate Mayfield, a career FBI agent, attend the five-year anniversary memorial held for family and friends. Kate worked on the case five years earlier, but was dropped from the case. She left with many more questions than answers. She encourages her husband to look into it again with her, despite being told to leave it alone. As they look into the case, we are taken on quite a journey of suspense. Many twists and turns make for a very exciting read. I found the ending to be unexpected, and it leaves you to mull the outcome over in your mind  for many days. DeMille also keeps you entertained with his wit and sense of humor (a laugh-out-loud type of humor)! This was a thoroughly enjoyable book. I can’t wait to read other tales by this author.
