The Cold Dish
By: Craig Johnson

My nephew visited me from Washington this summer and presented me with a copy of The Cold Dish. Having been a long-time fan of Craig Johnson, he wanted to share his enthusiasm for this author.

The Cold Dish is the first book in a series about Walt Longmire, a sheriff in Wyoming.  The book starts out with the murder of a man by the name of Cody Pritchard.  Two years earlier, Pritchard and three of his high school classmates were accused of raping a mentally-challenged Native American girl.  The group was convicted, but received minimal punishment. It now seems someone is seeking revenge.

The book grabbed me from the first page; Johnson has a wonderful way with words.  The characters have strong personalities and add much to the story.

I did not know when I read this book that it had been a NetFlix series, so some of you may already be acquainted with Johnson and Sheriff Longmire. There are presently 14 novels in this series, so I will have plenty of reading during the upcoming long winter nights.

For you romantics out there, Sheriff Longmire is also trying to cope with his lonely personal life, after having been widowed several years earlier.

This is just the beginning of my adventure following the antics of Sheriff Longmire and his crew.  Johnson is an artist who has a special way of painting pictures with his words, and I look forward to reading more of them.

About the Author:

Craig Johnson was born in 1961.  He lives in Wyoming with his wife, Judy. He is a former police officer, and he has also worked as an educator, cowboy and longshoreman.  He has received many prestigious awards for his writing.

Every year, Johnson and several of the actors of the NetFlix series gather in Buffalo, Wyoming, for Longmire Days, which includes four days of many fun-filled events.
