Editors Note April/May 2022

Exciting times here at 5ive. We are working to reignite not only the magazine but the cause. Stay tuned for new activities and events focused on our mission. We welcome new advertisers and appreciate those with us from the beginning. Without their support, we do not exist. There is so much to celebrate.

My amazing friends, I choose to celebrate everything big and small in this next season of my life. When faced with adverse and challenging events, we realize the mettle of our character; thus emerges who we indeed are as a person. The most difficult circumstances have promoted much growth, and I am choosing to find joy and celebrate the things that mean the most. I feel somewhat obnoxious talking about my choices to celebrate the small things in life when I see what is happening in our world, but I must try and find peace and joy regardless of the horror in our world right now. So, please indulge me as I share with you a few of my observations and things I am choosing to celebrate.

To the sweet couple I see in church every week … perhaps in their very young mid-eighties … your love for each other is pure joy. This adorable couple sits in the same place every week. He holds her hand and puts his arm around her the entire mass. He kisses her sweetly during peace, and I watch him help her with her coat every week. I am in awe, and I love how he talks to her as I hear them chatter on the way out. Their lifetime together took faith, love, respect, effort, and patience. I celebrate you! To the young couple I saw last week in church who looked 12—well, they were young; or perhaps I am getting old. Regardless, they were very newly married, from what I could surmise. I saw the young man sneak a peek at his young bride and his gaze lingered as he didn’t realize anyone was watching him. I could see how this new young husband was very intrigued by his new bride. Although they do not have the life of experience and wisdom of their elder counterparts, they have the anticipation of what their new life will bring. I celebrate you. To the newfound love I have for myself and who I am … the realization that I alone am enough. I celebrate me. The days are longer and the lovely spring mornings, track season, smells of grilling, warm days in May, impromptu dinner with friends. I celebrate all that. To my Sweet Number Four, our Gus … he is getting ready to launch and spread his wings. It is hard to believe that sweet baby Gus is graduating this year; it has been my honor to be his mama. Gus, you have my heart, and I cannot wait to see what you do next. I celebrate you!

To my new loves and passions: plants, baby chicks, building and keeping fires going, early bedtimes, movie marathons, advocacy, to name a few. This isn’t the life I envisioned as to start the slow wind down to my forties, and if honest, there are days that my grief wins, but I am embracing what is, and there is much to be celebrated.

This spring, let’s celebrate all the things that make us happy. Let’s embrace celebrations big and small. I am so excited to share all the stories with all of you. Congratulations to the class of 2022. The journey continues in faith, family, friends, fitness, and finance.
