Cammie Johnson Juvenile Diabetes Concert

What if your child or other loved one was diagnosed with Type 1 (T1D) or Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and did not have health insurance or the financial means to pay for life-saving pharmaceutical or medical supplies? What if you were able to help LOCAL children and adults of all ages with T1D or T2D? Would you do it?

At 10 years old, Cammie Johnson was diagnosed with T1D. She spent her adolescence balancing her diet and lifestyle, being careful to pay attention to everything she ate and drank, and testing her blood sugar by pricking her fingers and administering insulin shots many times a day. Despite her struggles with T1D, Cammie had a desire to help other people and dreamed of becoming a pediatric nurse. Unfortunately, five days prior to her 21st birthday in 2007, she lost her battle with diabetes. In 2009, to honor the legacy of this young lady whose life was tragically cut short by this all-too-common disease, her family started raising funds to support local students through education and camp scholarships.

CJ Diabetes Fund mission:
We aim to help individuals with diabetes live full and successful lives. We do this by providing education scholarships for students pursuing a degree in nursing, sending kids to qualified diabetic camps, and providing financial support and life-saving medication and diabetic supplies.

Where do the proceeds go?
High school seniors in Menomonie, Boyceville, Colfax, Elk Mound, Durand, and Eau Claire – as well as college students at Chippewa Valley Technical College and UW-Eau Claire – have benefited from the granting of over $30,000 of education scholarships. In addition, we have granted over $21,000 to send over 100 kids with T1D from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota to qualified diabetic camps due to our efforts. Finally, we have been able to aid area diabetics in financial need by paying for their diabetic medications and supplies, helping them meet their co-pays and deductibles, and get through gaps in insurance coverage.

Your support to our efforts help fund the Cammie Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund, the CBJ Kids to Camp Fund, and the Diabetic Care Fund in Memory of Cammie B. Johnson, all component funds of the Community Foundation of Dunn County (CFDC), a public charity. All or part of your donation may be tax deductible; more information will be provided in your gift acknowledgement, or you can speak to your tax professional for more information.
